Girls in STEM

Empowering the next generation of STEM professionals

Girls in STEM is a series of educational programs throughout the year that encourages interest in science and engineering among female students in grades 4-8.

Launched in 2013, the program offers a supportive and collaborative environment for girls to engage with each other while working on activities and projects that introduce them to STEM concepts such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Girls in STEM also partners with companies and mentors to speak with students about opportunities in STEM and as a future profession.

Upcoming Girls in STEM Events

Magnificent Meteorology

August 10 | 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. | Grades 4-8
$20 per Participant

Ever wonder how meteorologists can predict the weather? Find out at the next Girls in STEM event, Magnificent Meteorology! #GirlsInSTEM will have the opportunity to explore each component of Earth’s water cycle, create their own DIY weather station to get in touch with their inner meteorologist and investigate the effects of monsoon season on flash flooding here in Arizona. Throughout the day, participants will foster connections, both with local STEM mentors and like-minded peers, as well as form a better understanding of Earth’s weather patterns through hands-on activities.

Lunch will be provided.

Become a Mentor!

STEM Mentors impact the lives of Participants in a variety of ways, including helping with challenges, engaging the Participants in different projects, and, most importantly, a chance to mentor and inspire young girls* to consider exciting careers in STEM. We are in need of both English- and Spanish-speaking STEM Mentors.

Arizona Science Center is committed to providing access to exceptional educational experiences in STEM learning, regardless of ability to pay program fees. Scholarships for all of our Girls in STEM events are available thanks to generous donors and community partners. To apply for a scholarship for any of our Girls in STEM events, please complete the short online application below.

Inclusivity at Arizona Science Center

Our Girls in STEM program is open to anyone who identifies as female regardless of their assignment at birth. Our program is also open to those who identify as non-binary and, although the focus is on girls, all students are invited to attend regardless of gender identity.

Studies show that girls are more engaged in learning when the content presented is both tactile and closely tied to solving a real-world problem or challenge.

Change the Future of STEM
