SRP Awards Grant to Arizona Science Center

$45,000 Grant Will Enhance STEM Education Resources

PHOENIX, Ariz. –  A $45,000 grant from Salt River Project (SRP) will help Arizona Science Center support and expand STEM education resources for students and educators across Arizona.

This impactful partnership will enable the Center to reach even more Arizona students with engaging, hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and innovation.

“Arizona Science Center is honored to partner with SRP to empower Arizona’s students with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in an ever-evolving world,” said Guy Labine, The Hazel A. Hare President & CEO of Arizona Science Center. “With support from our community partners like SRP,  we are shaping a brighter future for our community.”

SRP has been a part of the Arizona community for more than 120 years, with a longstanding dedication to education, sustainability, and economic development. This contribution is part of SRP’s larger effort to support local nonprofits, community organizations, and educational programs that drive positive change.

"By investing in STEM education, we help Arizona students and families build critical thinking skills that empower success in any field,” said Anita Tarango, Community Engagement Manager at SRP. "Our partnership with the Arizona Science Center allows us to help students build the foundational skills they need to thrive in any field they choose. We’re proud to contribute to a program that inspires innovation and prepares young Arizonans for success."

The grant will directly benefit programs designed to ignite curiosity, foster critical thinking, and cultivate a passion for STEM in learners of all ages. The grant will support:

  • Traveling Exhibitions: To offer fresh, exciting, and relevant content while attracting new audiences, Arizona Science Center hosts multiple limited-engagement exhibitions each year in the Sybil B. Harrington and Freeman Galleries.
  • Girls in STEM: Through various programming, girls and women of all ages participate in events and learning opportunities to inspire a passion for STEM. Featured events for girls in grades 4-8 include hands-on engineering design challenges, opportunities to meet and visit with female STEM mentors, exploring the Center’s exhibits, and engaging in collaborative problem-solving activities.
  • Sustainability Weekend: During this annual February event, attendees have the unique opportunity to engage with local community partners and organizations dedicated to advancing sustainability. By showcasing a variety of projects and practices, the event serves as a platform for knowledge-sharing and inspiration, helping to build a network of sustainability-minded individuals and organizations committed to positive change
  • Science on Wheels:  Science on Wheels brings the excitement of hands-on science discovery directly to classrooms and other community-based organizations across the state by delivering exciting and immersive experiences, demonstrations, workshops and assembly programs. Programming includes over 80 topics ranging from biology to astronomy in several formats: Classroom Workshops, Group Assemblies, Family Science Nights, and Preschool Offerings.
  • Galaxy Gala: Galaxy Gala is Arizona Science Center’s annual celebration to benefit the Center’s STEM educational programs (science, technology, engineering and math). Held on the first Saturday of February, this “out-of-this-world” event brings together community members and science enthusiasts to champion STEM education and inspire the next generation of innovators.
