Artist + Researcher Exhibition CoHort 3 Opens at Arizona Science Center
Exhibition connecting Phoenix’s art and life science communities on view through spring 2025.
PHOENIX, AZ, October 29, 2024 – Arizona Science Center announced the opening of the ARx3 exhibition, now on display through spring 2025. The exhibition celebrates the intersection of science, art, and research.
Launched in spring 2022, the Artist + Researcher program (ARx) pairs local Phoenix artists with researchers and scientists from institutions such as Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, the Translational Genomics Research Institute, and biotech companies from Phoenix Bioscience Core (PBC). For nine months, these collaborative teams worked to translate next-generation life science discoveries happening on the PBC campus into various art forms, including sculpture, painting, and digital media.
The result from year three includes eight unique and compelling works of art:
- "Colonized" by Shah Noor Shafqat & Angel Algarin
- "Threads of Caring" by Alison Lane, Allie Peckham and Aaron Guest
- "Dr. Root’s Health Quest “Player Totems” by Kevin Clark & Dr. Hayley Root
- "The Cerebrovascular Complexity of a Stroke" by Kyllan Maney and Rayna Gonzales
- "Tether Vane" by Matthew Baral and Paul R. Standley PhD
- "Healing Hands, Resilient Spirit" by Tara Sharpe and Pamela Rogers Bosch
- "Line Translation Error Generation 1 and Line Translation Error Generation 2"by Tra Bouscaren and Ana Gervassi
- "Metastasize vs Mathematize" by Bacpac and Kamel Lahouel
To date, the program has successfully launched three cohorts of ARx with the art being showcased at influential places such as Sky Harbor International Airport, Phoenix City Hall, Bentley Gallery and College of Medicine at the University of Arizona before its current run at Arizona Science Center.
“As CEO, I witness firsthand how science, technology, engineering, and math drive progress,” stated Guy Labine, The Hazel A. Hare President & CEO of Arizona Science Center. “However, through art, we breathe life into these breakthroughs, transforming complex research into something relatable and impactful for the general public. We are thrilled to welcome ARx3 onsite at Arizona Science Center and share this powerful work with our guests.”
The ARx3 project shines a light on the cutting-edge research happening in downtown Phoenix, bridging the gap between science communication and the public through immersive art. This unique exhibition showcases the work of local researchers and innovators, translating complex ideas into engaging, thought-provoking visual narratives. By highlighting projects in areas like mental health and healthcare, ARx3 offers a dynamic platform that connects the community with the groundbreaking research shaping the future of our city.
“On behalf of our entire team, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Arizona Science Center for hosting this incredible art exhibition, which beautifully showcases the intersection of art and bioscience research,” said Scarlett Spring, Executive Director, Phoenix Bioscience Core. “Phoenix is becoming a hub for groundbreaking scientific discovery, and this exhibition not only highlights the innovative work happening in our city but also inspires a deeper appreciation for the vital role science plays in shaping our future.”
Arx3 will be open daily to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through spring 2025. The exhibition is included with a Science Center general admission ticket. Kids under 3 are always FREE. To learn more or to reserve your tickets, visit AzScience.org.
